The Phoenix Gaming Winter League kicked off with its first game last night, and it was quite the match up!
Coach Chris and his Squog-Hoggers faced off against new coach Kyle and his Coffin Kickers.
The Hoggers won a decently contested match, 2-1, that came down to a few crucial mistakes by the Vampire team’s coach.
The Goblins elected to receive, with Kis deep to collect the kickoff. Rakash, one of the trained trolls managed to mangle a thrall, sending it straight to the infirmary! Shortly after Kis scooped the kickoff and handed the ball off Knin. The rest of the goblins dodged, ducked, dipped, dove, and dodged back to form a loose cage on the sideline to protect their ball carrier.
The Coffin Kickers immediately over committed to trying to break the cage, but struggled due to all of the space the goblins had created!
With the Vampires so deep in the Hoggers’ side of the pitch, Knin was able to stroll in for an early Touchdown and the Hoggers only had to play not to lose from there-on-out!
The rest of the first half the goblins played a great “bend, don’t break” style of defense that prevented the blood suckers from getting into the end zone.
The Coffin Kickers started with the ball the second half, and despite being a rookie coach Kyle learned quickly. The vamps implemented their hypnotic gaze to great effect allowing for a quick completion by DImi to be converted into a Touchdown by Maya, knotting the game at 1-1 with plenty of time to play.
It was too much time. The Goblins finally let their secret weapon loose and the fanatic was a whirling dervish, wreaking havoc on all in its way. The Hoggers were able to use the space created to allow Chakto in for the walk off touchdown!
