Before we dive in, I want to apologize. I had every intention of taking pictures and sharing my first few forays into the Crusade with everyone, but sometimes my ADD-addled brain doesn’t work the way it should. So I ended up playing 2 Crusade games, but unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures, and as such I will only be doing a general overview of the games, rather than any kind of in-depth story telling or play by play. At least for this week.
Second of all…. I was invited by Games Workshop to judge for the Kansas City Open, so the week of the 30th, I’ll Likely not be posting anything, in addition I’ll be in Tacoma working for Games Workshop in July. I have the Apoc Fundraiser event for Military Gaming Command on the 1st of July, and I’m running a 2k 10th ed tourney at the end of July at Got Game. It will be a busy month!
My crusade force is generally pretty chill. I opted to play Blood Axes, mostly to step outside of my comfort zone/norm. (I typically play sunz, and not to brag, but am currently the top ranked sunz player… Okay… definitely to brag)
I have a Warboss (Standard), with a skorcha. He has Duk and Kova (can pick a unit in a terrain feature, that unit cannot be targeted with ranged attacks unless the attacking unit is within 12″ of the feature)
He also has Fight Detecta (Auspex scan, but you can charge instead)
Those are just summaries of what they do. They were in one of the blood Axe DLC books, if you are curious. or just check battlescribe.
I also opted for a weird boy. (Again, stepping out of my norm. I’ve barely used them in 9th, as they are kinda ASS

He’s got a plan, as he started with “I’ve got a plan, Ladz”, which is just a pregame redeploy.
From there its pretty standard fare, a unit of boyz that I did upgrade with Trukk Boyz. They are Shoota Boyz, so while in the trukk they will hit on 4+. 2 units of 10 grots.
A unit of 10 kommandos with breacha and bomb squig/distraction grot
And a Trukk.
Nothing to write home about, really. But I tend to use Crusade and “Narrative” play to explore units I wouldn’t normally run. I could have just as easily loaded up on Bikes and played Evil Sunz, but I wanted to try something new!
My first game was against Tyler and his Nids. Again, I forgot to take pictures, and take notes, so I won’t dive too deep into it. Just know that I was able to come out on top. The follow-up game was against craftworlds. And I definitely didn’t come out on top there.
These games did remind me why I don’t particularly care for games at lower power levels. It isn’t the speed of the games, nor is it the small army sizes. Its the tiny boards. In a game that already favors going first, On the smaller boards its even more important. I went second both games, if I remember correctly, and I was turn-1 charged by a unit of Genestealers, it instantly vaporized my trukk. (Not mad, just remembering why we ended up playing on slightly bigger tables before)

The second game I was shot off of the table by swooping hawks and guide/doom (the trukk, again). I did fight a valiant fight, but in the end, I couldn’t stop the pointy-eared gitz from giving me the business.
All-in-all it was fun, and I had a great time! I look forward to more games, though my involvement will be spotty for the foreseeable future.
