As I continue to work on Battle for Greyloch (a Rank and File style battle game), I will be releasing snippets providing background details about various units within the universe. The first of these units is the Woodkith!
The Woodkith are sentient treefolk, created when wood elves bind the souls of dead and dying warriors to one of the saplings growing within the Kith Groves they tend to inside of their forests. Once the souls are bound to the sapling, the tree begins to slowly deform and grow into a humanoid shape.
The Woodkith, once limbs have grown, are free to uproot and move about, however the process scars the soul and typically leaves little more than a near-feral beast ready to carry out murderous intent on behalf of the forest. The few that make it through the process with little to no trauma continue to grow into ancient tree spirits, their power and magic near-unrivaled.
Woodkith are represented on the battlefield with Games Workshop Dryads and Tree Lords, though there are a variety of 3d printable options out there! They should be on square bases, but formation trays like this one will allow you to put them on round bases.
